Galatasaray Build Up from Throw-Ins
Practice description
Aim
Develop build-up play from defensive throw-ins and immediate reactions when possession changes near goal.
How it works
This opposed practice starts from a throw-in in the defensive third. One team builds towards three mini goals, while its opponents press and threaten a counter-attack.
• Restart with a defensive throw-in and provide clear supporting options for the receiver.
• Once the ball enters play, the possession team combines to move away from pressure and progress up the pitch.
• Work towards scoring in one of the three mini goals, using the available passing route.
• The pressing team closes down the build-up and attempts to regain the ball.
• If the pressing team wins possession, it immediately counter-attacks towards goal as the original possession team reacts to defend.

Coaching points
• Movement Around the Throw-In: Encourage intelligent movement and rotation to provide the thrower with multiple options. Players should look to create space and be aware of pressing triggers.
• First Touch Quality: Emphasize the importance of a clean first touch under pressure, especially in tight areas near the touchline and in the defensive third.
• Building Through Pressure: Focus on supporting angles and communication. The receiving player must recognize pressure cues and combine quickly to bypass the press.
• Defensive Transition: When possession is lost, players must react immediately to counter-press or recover into defensive positions to deny the counter-attack.
